Coordination Unit

The International and Intergovernmental Relations Directorate created a Coordination Unit in 2007 in response to increasing department-wide demand for support to cross-cutting coordination efforts. The Coordination Unit supports Ministerial and Senior Management activity associated with such high-profile initiatives as Gateway and Corridor work; key bilateral relationships, including relations with China; and work in support of the Department's increasing role vis-à-vis the International Transport Forum. The Unit is designed to be as flexible as possible, with officers to be deployed to support projects as required. To date, the Coordination Unit has supported both domestic and international initiatives.

The key functions of the Unit are to:

1. Undertake a corporate coordination role of high-level domestic and international visits and initiatives.
2. Make recommendations with regard to and coordinate activities in support of follow up actions to key events, in consultation with relevant directorates and Groups.
3. Undertake special projects in support of departmental objectives.
