VISA AND PASSPORT

All TRANSED participants must have a valid passport and/or an appropriate travel document to enter Canada. Some participants may also require a visa. For more information on what is needed to come to Canada, visit Citizenship and Immigration Canada site. You can also visit the Canada Border Services Agency

It is strongly recommended that if you require a visa, you apply at least one month in advance to ensure you receive your visa in time for travel.

When submitting a visa application to the nearest Canadian visa office, ensure that the application form is complete, including all relevant supporting documentation. To obtain a visa application form, visit the nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate or get the application form at Citizenship and Immigration Canada site.

Health costs
Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors. Make sure you have health insurance to pay for any medical costs you may incur in Canada.

Personal Baggage
Clothing and goods for personal use during your stay are admitted to Canada duty-free. Items such as cameras, tape recorders, computers and sporting equipment should be registered with the customs service in the traveller's country of residence prior to departure in order to prove they were purchased prior to entry into Canada. In most provinces, limited quantities of tobacco products may be brought in duty-free by persons 18 years and over (19 in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Ontario and British Columbia). Similarly, limited quantities of alcoholic beverages may be brought into Alberta, Manitoba and Québec by persons 18 years and over (19 in other provinces).

Gifts
Visitors to Canada may bring in gifts of a maximum value of $60 CA. Duty must be paid on any gifts in excess of this amount. Tobacco, alcohol and promotional materials may not be considered as gifts.

Tips
Once you arrive, an officer will ask you a few short questions. To make this go quickly, keep your passport with you and not in your luggage. The officer will stamp your passport or advise you how long you may stay in Canada. Feel free to ask questions if you are unsure about anything.
