Environmental Programs
Transport Canada implements programs and strategies to protect the natural environment and promote a more sustainable transportation system.
They seek to:
- improve the use of sustainable transportation infrastructure in communities through programs such as: ecomobility, Moving on Sustainable Transportation (MOST) and the Urban Transportation Showcase Program (UTSP);
- reduce emissions from goods movement through the ecofreight Program;
- reduce emissions from personal vehicles through the ecotechnology for Vehicles Program and the Fuel Consumption Program;
- "green" our departmental operations through environmental management initiatives such as environmental protection, environmental management system, and contaminated sites;
- oversee environmental assessments for projects potentially affecting our transportation system.
