Issue:

The infant car seat carry handle can develop cracks and break allowing the seat to fall unexpectedly, posing a risk of injury to the infant.

To date, Britax has received 74 reports, including one from Canada, of the handle developing fractures, cracks, or breaking while in use. These incidents have resulted in one injury report in the United States where the unit dropped to the ground and the infant received a bump to their head. Transport Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to this defect.

This defect does not affect the safety performance of the seat when used in a motor vehicle. It is safe for consumers to continue to use their car seat when secured in a vehicle or on a stroller. However, the car seat should not be lifted or carried by the carry handle until the remedy kit has been installed.

Consumer Recourse:

Consumers should determine whether their infant car seat is included in the recall by verifying the model number and date of manufacture against the information above or by visiting the website dedicated to this recall (www.bsafe35recall.com). This recall affects only certain infant car seat models manufactured between October 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015. The model number and date of manufacture can be found on a label affixed to the back of the seat. Registered owners will receive a free remedy kit containing instructions and a carry handle bracket that will attach to the infant car seat carry handle to reinforce it.
