Issue:
Dorel Distribution Canada and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of an error on an English language label affixed to the side of the Scenera infant/child seat. This English language label incorrectly identifies and understates the weight ranges for the rear-facing usage mode. The correct weight range is as stipulated on the French language label, as well as in the bilingual instruction manual.
Safety Risk:
Clarifying the correct weight range for the rear-facing usage mode on the English language label will encourage proper usage of the restraint system.
Background and Company Action:
Transport Canada received notification from a certified Children's Restraint System Technician advising of an error on the English language label. The English label incorrectly states that the weight range for the rear-facing mode is from 2.3 to 14 kg (5 to 30 pounds). The correct weight range on the English language label should read that the rear-facing mode is from 2.3 to 16 kg (5 to 35 pounds).
Dorel Distribution Canada was informed of the discrepancy immediately. The company quarantined all product located in the warehouse until new labels were printed. Quality alerts were issued to the production lines to ensure proper labeling.
The company has reprinted the affected label. The carton has been marked with a green dot to indicate that the fix has been performed.
Consumer Recourse:
All registered and non-registered consumers that contact Dorel Distribution Canada at their toll free number (1-800-544-1108) will receive, free of charge, a repair kit consisting of a new label.
Until the English language label can be replaced, the restraint system can continue to be used in accordance with the French language label and the bilingual instruction manual. The affected restraint systems should not be returned to the retailer.
