Issue:

Evenflo Company, Inc. and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of an error on a French label affixed to certain Big Kid AMP Booster Car Seats which were manufactured on June 29, 2012.  The text-only section of the French on-product label of affected units has incorrect height and weight ranges for use of the restraint in backless mode.  Specifically, when used in backless mode, the subject units have a correct weight range of 18-49.8 kg (40-110 lbs ), and a correct height range of 102-145 cm (40-57 in ), as indicated on the English label.  In contrast, the text section of the French label of the affected units states a weight range of 10-18 kg (22-40 lbs ) and a height range of 71-127 cm (28-50 in ) in backless mode. It should be noted that the graphic representation of the French label includes the correct information.

Safety Risk:

This issue could impact occupants if a French-speaking consumer reads only the text version of the height and weight guidelines on this label, ignoring all of the other height and weight references on the packaging and in the instruction manual, as well as the graphic portion of the label or the equivalent English label on the product itself.  If this were to occur, the consumer may use the booster seat in backless mode for a child with a weight less than 18 kg (40 lbs ) and/or a height less than 102 cm (40 in ).

Company Action:

Evenflo disclosed this defect to Transport Canada and immediately put into production corrected labels.  Furthermore, Evenflo has been supplying the affected retailer with a document pouch to affix to the outer packaging of the affected units.  The pouch contains a replacement label and instructions on how it is to be affixed to the product.  Any units remaining in company inventory will be reworked prior to distribution.

Consumer Recourse:

All registered owners with affected car seats will be sent a label pouch containing a replacement label and instructions on how it is to be affixed to the product.  Non-registered owners, or owners who have moved, are asked to contact Evenflo Company, Inc. by phone at 1-937-773-3971, or through the company website (www.evenflo.com), to register for a free label pouch.  The affected car seats should not be returned to the retailer.
