Issue:

Graco Children’s Product and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of a non-compliance involving certain Graco My Ride 65 convertible car seats. The webbing of the affected infant child restraints do not conform to the breaking strength requirements indicated in the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations.

Safety Risk:

Graco was notified of the non-compliance by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as part of their compliance test program. The webbing that is used to restrain a child within the restraint system is required to have a breaking strength of at least 11,000 N. In the event of a serious motor vehicle crash, the harness webbing restraining the child may break resulting in a child not being properly restrained.

Company Action:

Graco’s investigation to date has concluded that the testing failures are associated with a single batch of sewn webbing. Webbing sewn after the affected time period is compliant and meets the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Cushion Safety Standards (RSSR) requirements. Graco is notifying consumers who may be impacted and is providing, free of charge, replacement kits with new harness restraints and installation instructions. The replacement harness will not have the affected webbing tag code “2014/06”. The instructions for the harness replacement require the consumer to cut the webbing to remove it which will render the old harness unusable.

This public notice includes the following Graco My Ride 65 car seats in the table below:

Consumer Recourse:

Graco is notifying consumers who may be impacted and is providing, free of charge, replacement kits with new harness restraints and installation instructions. All non-registered consumers or consumers who have moved are encouraged to contact Graco by email or by phone for instructions on obtaining the replacement harness. The affected seats should not be returned to retailers or the company. Graco is advising parents to continue using their seat until they receive their replacement harness.
