Bellanca 8GCBC - Service Difficulty Alert

Scout Flap Cables

Transport Canada has received a Service Difficulty Report (SDR) from a Bellanca 8GCBC Canadian operator who discovered the right hand flap cable, P/N 19023, frayed. The cable discrepancy was located near the wing root pulley.

A search in the SDR database revealed 21 other Service Difficulty Reports indicating similar part number defects while one reported a cable failure.

The Bellanca Scout Maintenance Manual Inspection Report (Table 3-1) has no specific instructions to inspect the flap cable system. A detailed flap cable inspection would mitigate the risk of flap cable failures.

Transport Canada strongly recommends that operators and maintainers of Bellanca Scout aircraft inspect the flap cable system for deficiencies at their earliest opportunity. Furthermore, AMEs are reminded to exercise diligence when inspecting this area during scheduled inspections.

Any further defects or occurrences should be reported to Transport Canada, Continuing Airworthiness, Ottawa via the Service Difficulty Reporting program.

For further information, contact a Transport Canada Centre, or Mr. Jean Grenier, Continuing Airworthiness, Ottawa, telephone (613) 952-4343, facsimile (613) 996-9178 or e-mail grenije@tc.gc.ca.
