Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL)

This Transport Canada Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL) Global Change (GC) revises MMEL relief for Exterior Lavatory Door Ashtray found in item 25-40-1 of the TC MMEL Guidance Book, Revision 07, dated 27 April 2009.

This GC is an approved addendum to all affected existing MMELs and in accordance with TP 9155 (Second Edition, January 2006) paragraph 2.6.5, affected MELs should be amended accordingly.  Approval of the revised MEL shall be gained using normal procedures.

TC MMEL Guidance Book item 25-40-1, domestic MMELs, and TC Supplements will be amended in the future to reflect the revised relief for Exterior Lavatory Door Ashtray in accordance with this GC.

SUBJECT: EXTERIOR LAVATORY DOOR ASHTRAY

Discussion:

MMEL relief for Exterior Lavatory Door Ashtray found in item 25-40-1 of the TC MMEL Guidance Book Revision 07 is in accordance with FAA AD 74-08-09 R2.

R3 of the AD has been issued which includes revised MMEL relief for missing or inoperative Exterior Lavatory Door Ashtrays. Subsequently, the FAA granted AMOCs (alternative method of compliance) with a slightly different MMEL relief that still meets the intent of AD 74-08-09 R3.

In the United States, FAA Policy Letter (PL) 85 Revision 4, dated 5 July 2012, has been issued to incorporate AD 74-08-09 R3 as well as the AMOCs s.

This GC 7 revises item 25-40-1 of the Guidance Book to harmonize with PL 85, AD 74-08-09 R3 and the AMOCs s granted by the FAA.
