Oceans Protection Plan – Two years of accomplishments

Transcript

Canada's Oceans Protection Plan protects our waters and coasts.

Among the new measures launched in the last two years, we:

  • Spent more sea days in the Arctic to provide more ice breaking services and make our waters safer
  • Increased aerial surveillance of arctic waters to prevent pollution at sea
  • Worked with coastal First Nations in BC to strengthen search and rescue in local waters
  • Worked with Indigenous and Inuit peoples to protect, preserve and restore our oceans and coasts
  • Opened a maritime rescue centre in St. John's NL to improve marine search and rescue response
  • Increased scientific research to protect whales
  • Removed abandoned vessels from our shores to stop them from polluting our waters and coasts
  • Introduced an Oil Tanker Moratorium Act to restrict large tankers on BC's North Coast
