What is the scope of the standard?

The CSA B622 standard sets out the requirements for selection and use, handling, filling and unloading of highway tanks and TC portable tanks for transportation of dangerous goods in Class 2.

Where is the standard referenced in the TDG Regulations?

Section 5.10 of the TDG Regulations specifies that a means of containment in accordance with CSA B622 is a permitted container for the transport of dangerous goods in Class 2 (gases) by road or by ship.

The CSA Group has launched an online platform that allows registered users free access to Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) safety standards published by CSA Group referenced in federal TDG regulations. A copy of this standard can be obtained from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

When does the 2020 version of CSA-B622 come into effect?

This standard has come into effect 19 November 2020 but the regulatory amendment provides a period of transition that allows a person to comply with the 2014 standard until 31 May 2021.

What is the status of the next edition?

The CSA Technical Committee on the B622 standard is continuously working on the next edition of the standard.
