All off-road side-by-side utility vehicles, dune buggies, dirt bikes and ATVs with a maximum speed of 32 km/h (or 20 mph) are admissible and exempt from the RIV program by virtue of their designed maximum speed limitation (see notes)
Refer to Section 9 for importing off-road restricted-use vehicles (side-by-side utility vehicles, dune buggies, dirt bikes and ATVs) designed to operate at speeds greater than 32 km/h (or 20 mph) |

|
The importer is responsible for providing adequate proof to border officials that the vehicle was designed and manufactured with a maximum speed of 32 km/h (or 20 mph) to establish its non-regulated status at importation.
Products equipped with speed limiters are assessed by first taking into consideration the untethered speed capacity of the vehicle. In cases where the vehicle's design makes it highly impractical to remove a speed governing mechanism, Transport Canada may, on a case-by-case basis evaluation, consider the speed limitation as valid. |
