All buses other than transit buses manufactured from June 24, 2018 to July 31, 2019 with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 14,969 kg (33,000 lbs) without Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as required by CMVSS 136 are inadmissible.



All buses other than transit buses manufactured on or after August 1, 2019 with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 11,793 kg (26,000 lbs) without Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as required by CMVSS 136 are inadmissible.

Note 1: All buses other than transit buses manufactured from June 24, 2018 to July 31, 2019 with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 14,969 kg (33,000 lbs) must be equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as required by CMVSS 136.


Note 2: All buses other than transit buses manufactured on or after August 1, 2019 with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 11,793 kg (26,000 lbs) must be equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as required by CMVSS 136.


Note 3: All buses other than Transit buses, buses with perimeter seating, and prison buses with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 4,536kg (10,000 lbs) manufactured on or after September 1, 2020 must be equipped with Type II, lap/shoulder belts as required by CMVSS 209/210. Contact an authorized Thomas Built Buses dealership for information on the exact nature and costs of modifications, if required.

Buses lacking proper ESC compliance will fail the inspection and shall be reported as inadmissible. Contact an authorized Thomas Built Buses dealership for additional information.
